Methodist College Uzuakoli was founded in the year 1923 by a group of missionaries of the Primitive Methodist Church of Great Britain and was then named Uzuakoli Institute (UI), and in 1931, was renamed Methodist College. According to the records, the group of missionaries who established the College was led by Rev. Herbert Lewis Octavia Williams, its first principal.

Methodist College Uzuakoli has consistently graduated its students with complete High School Certificate (HSC) papers and credits in the West African School Certificate (WASC), which was equivalent to the British General Certificate of Education (GCE).
Students of the College have opportunities to participate in the Arts and Debating Society, Science Club, Scripture Union, Society for the Promotion of Igbo Language and Culture, Horticultural Society, Theater and Dramatic Society, etc. Some of the accolades bestowed upon the college included the winner of the 1980 National Quiz Championship and the 1978 Imo State Debating Championship.
Scholarships for students and intending students who meet the requirements are our way of encouraging them and giving back to society.
UMCOBA provides support to students struggling through proper one-to-one guardian and counseling programs as was in the old days of this institution.
